What to Pack for a Pu Luong Trek
Pack for walking in working countryside — uneven paths, possible rain, sun on open terraces and forest shade — on the programme confirmed for your departure. This is not a general Vietnam holiday checklist.
Footwear and socks
Closed shoes with tread you trust on mud and loose earth. Smooth trainers are a common mistake on terrace edges and forest litter.
Wool or synthetic socks that handle sweat; a spare pair helps if you step deep into mud or cross streams. Sandals are not a substitute on the walking sections we operate.
Rain protection and quick-dry clothing
Light rain shell or packable waterproof, even in a season you expect sun. Showers can arrive quickly; forest sections stay damp longer than open fields.
Quick-dry trousers or shorts you can move in — avoid heavy denim that stays wet and chafes. A thin layer for forest shade is enough for many days; your hotel or homestay night bag depends on the programme you book.
Daypack, water and sun
Small daypack for water, rain layer, snacks and phone. Carry more water than you think you need on open terrace sections — sun and humidity drain you even on Easy grades.
Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for exposed paths; insect repellent is personal preference — bring what you already use at home.
Dry storage and basics
Zip bags or a dry pouch for phone and cash on wet days. Trekking poles are optional; tell us if you rely on them so the guide can pace accordingly.
Personal medication stays with you. We do not publish medical packing lists or suitability rules here.
Overnight walks and larger bags
Homestay and two-day programmes need a change of clothes and toiletries for the night confirmed in your itinerary. How larger luggage meets you between vehicle, village and stay is not the same on every departure.
Do not assume suitcases stay in the car, that hotels store bags for free, or that porters carry gear unless your written confirmation says so. Ask us to confirm luggage handling for your specific booking.
What you can skip
Formal clothing, heavy camera rigs you will not carry, and a full Southeast Asia wardrobe. Focus on one comfortable walking outfit plus rain and sun layers that match the grade you booked.
Once you know your programme, confirm gear and luggage in writing before you pay.
